Who is the convention for?

All ages are welcome

There is a Little Jains programme for under 5's, and a Kids Convention for 5-12's. The main programme is designed for 12 to more than 60

Are there any age restrictions?

No, all ages are welcome. All sessions will delivered in English though.

Working professionals will discover a practical approach to living Jainism your daily life.

Retired enthusiasts who don’t understand complicated Gujarati can learn how to practice the core teaching of Jainism.

Students can meet link minded individuals and discover the majesty of the faith through workshops and discussions.

There is a Little Jains programme for under 5's, Kids Convention for 5-12's.

What Will Be Happening

What's the programme for the weekend?

We’ll have workshops, presentations and interactive group sessions during the day. As well as social activities in the evening.

Lunch and dinner will be provided.

We may also be running morning meditation sessions for those interested. Stay tuned for more information.

Do I need to know anything about Jainism?

No, the convention doesn’t require any pre-requisite knowledge. We will be explaining some of the core tenants of the religion using interactive workshops, simple analogies and stories.

Yes, the convention is for anyone with an open mind and an appetite for spiritual growth.

On The Day

What can I Expect from the Weekend?

The whole convention is a guided exploration. There will be a number of main stage sessions and workshops, all delivered in an interactive style. You will be single structured journey throughout the weekend and come out feeling inspired.

What time does it start and finish each day?

The timings for each day are:

  • Friday:
    • Dinner and Registration from 6.30pm.
    • Main programme starting at 8.00pm
    • Finishing at 10.00pm
  • Saturday:
    • Welcome pack and Registration available from 9.00am
    • Main programme starting at 9.15am
    • Dinner and entertainment will be from 7.00-10.00pm
  • Sunday:
    • Main programme starting at 9.45am
    • Dinner served from 6.00pm

What do I need to bring?

Essentials to bring with you are:

  • A smile
  • A bottle of water
  • Snacks if you need them (we'll provide lunch and dinner on Sat and Sun, plus your Welcome Dinner on Friday night with lots of tea and coffee breaks too throughout) 
  • An open mind, ready to explore

We'll be providing a delegate pack with pens, paper and other goodies.

How do I get there?

  • By Tube
    • to Queensbury on the Jubilee Line
    • to Edgware on the Northern Line
  • By Bus
    • from Harrow and Kenton: 114
    • from Queensbury and Burnt Oak: 288 towards Edgware
      Taking the 288 bus, alight at the third stop, on Camrose Avenue, where there is a width restriction barrier on the road. Canons High School is a 3-minute walk from here. Cross to the other side of the road and back-track in the direction that you have just come from and take a left onto Shaldon Road. Canons High School is situated at the bottom of this road.
    • from Edgware: 288 towards Queensbury Station
      Alight on Camrose Avenue at the bus stop where there is a width restriction. Canons High School is a 3-minute walk from here. Walk along Camrose Avenue, in the same direction as the bus would have continued in. The first turn left is Shaldon Road. Canons High School is situated at the bottom of this road.

What if I can only make one day?

Better to come on both to get the full experience and also each session builds on the next. You’ll still have to pay the full registration fee.

Registration

What if I'm a non-member or my membership has lapsed?

As a non-member, the convention fee difference compared to members includes one year’s free membership (£15). By becoming a member you’ll benefit from reduced Convention fees as well as getting the membership benefits of the free Magazine, free entry to regular events and discounts on ticket events etc.

I sent my registration form ages ago but have not heard anything yet. Who do I contact?

Congratulations for sending the registration form ages ago. Well done on great decision making. Please be aware that confirmations to registration may take up to 2 weeks so please be patient - after all patience is a virtue! If after 2 weeks you have not heard anything then contact Krupa Shah, stating your name and address.

Can I leave my registration till the last minute?

We have a limited number of registration spaces due to fire regulations at the venue. Once the spaces are full we cannot accommodate any more no matter who it is. We expect spaces to fill up quickly and there is extra to pay the longer you wait. To confirm your place and benefit from early booking prices, register now. Fees are subsidised and do not cover the full cost of the Convention.

What are the different registration categories?

There are four categories of registration:

  • Members - for members of Young Jains.
  • Students - for anyone in fulltime education amd under 25 at the time of the convention.
  • Non-Members - for those not members of Young Jains. One years free membership in included in the registration fee.
  • Little Jains - for those registering for the Little Jains event.

How much is it to register?

The registration prices are currently £30 for YJ Members, £40 for Non-Member (with free one years membership) and £30 for Students in full time education. The Kids Convention is £10 per child, who must be accompanied by a full paying adult. The Little Jains Event is £10 per guardian.  

Prices will go up on 1st July.

Kids Convention

What is the age range of the Kids Convention?

The Kids Convention is geared towards the 5-12 age range.

Under 5s can attend Little Jains and 12 and over can be in main convention.

What is the programme for the weekend?

We'll share key concepts of Jain Dharma and stories from Mahavir Bhagwan's life in a fun and interactive manner , have fun, play outside and provide the kids an outstanding, memorable and uplifting YJ Convention experience.

How much is the registration cost?

The event costs £10 per child for the whole weekend. Each child must be accompanied by an adult attending the main convention.

This includes any materials/activities used and of course the 5 delicious Jain Vegan meals. It is tremendous values.

The cost is kept deliberately low with various sponsors/donors including individuals, YJ, Arhat Touch and Shri Chandana Vidya Peeth contributing resources and time to make is a fantastic experience for the kids.

How do I register?

You and your child can register online now. Just tick the box saying you wish to register a child for the Kids Convention.

Who is facilitating?

There'll be a mix of facilitators including Arhat Touch, SCVP and our own YJ parent volunteers.

Little Jains

What is the age range for the Little Jains event?

The Little Jains event is geared towards under 5's.

What time is it on?

The event is on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9am-1pm. A nutrious lunch is included.

What will be happening?

A structured programme which incorporates learning Jain values.  This year's activities have been geared to include the olympics theme.  The programme consists of exercise/physical games, rhythm and Jain rhymes, arts and crafts and group/individual tasks which aim to instil Jain ethics/values such as non-violence, kindness, etc.  A snack break is included half way through the programme.

Do I have to be there to?

Yes, every child needs to have a guardian present throughout the programme.

How much is the registration cost?

The price is £10 per child per day, with one guardian attending. Each additional guardian is also £10.

We currently have a special buy one get one free offer, if you wish to attend both days the price is £10 for the whole weekend.

Can I attend for only one day?

Yes, the programme is priced per day. There is a special buy one get one free offer, where the price of both days is the same as one.

It is more worthwhile staying for the whole weekend to benefit from a longer time to meet & network with like minded parents and for your children to make new friends and learn more of the Jain values.

How do I register?

You can register online now. Just choose the registration type as Little Jains, then add in the details of the child attending.

Once you register, you will be put automatically on Little Jains Mailing list which sends out the monthly mail about the free sessions held normally on 2nd Saturday of every month in Cannons High School, Edgware.
