Event: Moving towards Cruelty-Free Low-Himsa Lifestyle

Posted by: Young Jains Blog Editor In: Events

A friendly, social and informative event jointly run by Jain Vegans and Young Jains.

Date: Saturday 9th May 2009
Venue: Jain Vishwa Bharati, Sayer Centre, Oxgate Lane, London NW2 7JN
Time: 3pm to 6pm
Entrance: FREE, but suggested donation of £1 per person would be much appreciated.

Many members of the Jain community are making the link between the Jain lifestyle and the vegan lifestyle. For many Jains, being vegetarian is not enough - the starting point needs to be vegan. This event will inform you about the reasons behind this statement, and also show you how easy it is to make the transition to a healthy vegan diet.

So come and join us for food, friends, fun and facts, as we treat you to some delicious vegan foods, introduce you to some great organizations working hard to reduce the himsa in the modern world, and enlighten you with some information as to why a vegan starting point is logical for Jains today.

Vegan food kindly donated by various organisations including:

Message from event attendee Jyoti Mehta as posted on the Jain Vegans Yahoo! group:

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all doing well. Just to let you know I have uploaded photos from the JainVegan and Young Jains event, which was held at Sayer Centre on Saturday
9th May.

Congratulations to everyone involved for putting on an excellent and informative event. The video clips exposing the realities of the dairy industry were very moving and thought-provoking. There was a very experienced panel on hand answering questions from the floor.

It was also a day to celebrate the tastiness of vegan food! There was an abundance of food, and thanks must go to the businesses who kindly donated food and the many volunteers who prepared food at home for the event. To name but a few of the delicacies there was chaat, vegan kadhi, jalebi, vegan ice cream and much more. There was enough food left over to feed everyone at another Young Jains event the following day so even more people were able to enjoy the vegan treats.

All in all, a fantastic event. Well done once again.

Jyoti

  • jyoti shah: Fun analogies and asscociation-a good tool to teach childeren
  • Suraj: Jyotiben Jai Jinendra The way that I had written the above post, it may appear that the song trivialises the tattvas - this was not my intention
  • jyoti shah: ashrav samvar nijra is very well explained in samysar in kund kun acharya,by kanji swami,by bahenshree etc. Why complicate it with your own explanatio
